The SCH Boys Basketball Team had an inconsistent but encouraging start to the 2017-2018 season, resulting in a 3-8 record. At the beginning of the season, the Blue Devils took on Perkiomen and Shipley, who are both ranked in the state. The SCH Basketball Team is coached by Julian McFadden (CHA ‘06) and the program is in the second year of a complete overhaul that features a handful of talented underclassmen, including sophomore guard Ke’Shawn Williams and 8th-grader Darius Isaac. Williams, a 5’10” sophomore guard, averages 14.3 points and 4 assists per game, which are both team highs. SCH is also led by senior captain CJ Sweitzer, sophomore guard Jared Sprague-Lott, and junior forward Jack McDonald.
Recently, the Devils played in the Boardwalk Beach Basketball Classic in Wildwood, New Jersey. The Devils went 1-1 in the tournament with a win against Atlantic Christian Academy and a loss to Bethesda-Chevy Chase. In the Devils’ 56-25 win, Ke’Shawn Williams led the team with 10 points, while Jahli Hendricks, a junior guard, had a team-high 3 assists. However, SCH had 14 turnovers in their loss 50-45 to Bethesda-Chevy Chase, which contributed largely to their defeat.
The Blue Devils will now begin Inter-Ac play, which will be highly competitive. Germantown Academy (4-8), Episcopal Academy (8-6), Penn Charter (10-4), and Malvern Prep (6-3) are all entering League play determined to win the Inter-Ac. After suffering a loss to Malvern Prep on Tuesday, January 9th, SCH will play its second League game on Friday, January 12th against the Germantown Academy Patriots. The SCH Blue Devil Basketball Team will need to overcome their early-season struggles if they want to be victorious in the Inter-Ac.
